Borehole Pump Installations and Connections Services in Springs

A borehole pump installation in Springs needs a pump matched to the borehole’s tested yield, pumping water level and the pressure required at its destination. Safe connections, suitable controls and separation from municipal water are just as important as the pump itself. Fox Plumbing serves Springs from Benoni, with owner Evan Pretorius on the tools and the price agreed upfront.

Quick answer

A borehole pump installation in Springs needs a pump matched to the borehole’s tested yield, pumping water level and the pressure required at its destination. Safe connections, suitable controls and separation from municipal water are just as important as the pump itself. Fox Plumbing serves Springs from Benoni, with owner Evan Pretorius on the tools and the price agreed upfront.

When a borehole pump or connection needs attention

An existing borehole without a working pump needs an assessment before equipment is selected. For an older installation, weak flow, repeated stopping or a pump that starts every few seconds can point to problems with the pump, controls, pipework or available groundwater—not necessarily a pump that is too small.

If the pump runs but delivers no water, switch it off and arrange an inspection. Repeatedly restarting it can worsen damage if it is running dry. Sand in the water also needs investigation before fitting a replacement pump.

  • A newly drilled borehole is ready for its pump and delivery pipework.
  • The pump runs, but the storage tank fills slowly or not at all.
  • Pressure changes sharply when another outlet opens.
  • You want to connect an existing borehole to a tank or separate irrigation supply.
  • Leaks, damaged fittings or unreliable controls are affecting operation.

What affects the installation cost?

The right equipment depends on the duty required, not simply the pump’s motor rating. Selection should account for the pumping water level, elevation to the delivery point, pipe friction and required outlet pressure. The intended pumping rate must also stay within the borehole’s sustainable yield.

An existing installation may need more than a replacement pump. Worn delivery pipes, unsuitable controls or difficult access can change the scope. Fox Plumbing agrees the price upfront; its call-out fee includes the first hour of work, and pensioners receive a special rate.

  • Availability of reliable borehole yield and water-level records.
  • Pump setting depth and access for lowering or retrieving equipment.
  • Pipe length, diameter, pressure rating and installation route.
  • Tank connections, level controls and any separate booster requirements.
  • Dry-run protection, electrical supply and required electrical work.
  • Water testing and treatment appropriate to the intended use.

Planning a borehole connection at a Springs property

Start by deciding what the water will supply: irrigation, selected non-drinking outlets or household use. A storage tank can separate borehole pumping from peak demand, but it does not increase the borehole’s yield. A borehole pump also needs electricity; storing water alone does not guarantee pressurised supply during a power outage.

Before connecting to indoor plumbing, confirm the applicable City of Ekurhuleni requirements and any water-use obligations. Borehole water must not be allowed to feed back into municipal pipework; a simple non-return valve should not be treated as sufficient protection for every arrangement. Drinking-water use requires laboratory testing and treatment based on the results—not an assumption that clear water is safe.

  • Have the drilling report, yield-test results and existing pump details available.
  • Identify the tank position and measure the proposed pipe route.
  • Keep alternative-water outlets clearly identified.
  • Plan safe access to the borehole head, valves and controls for maintenance.

Discuss your Springs installation with Fox Plumbing

Fox Plumbing is based in Benoni and serves the East Rand and greater Gauteng, including Springs. Owner Evan Pretorius is a qualified registered plumber with more than 20 years’ experience, is a member of IOPSA and PIRB, and works on the tools. Fox Plumbing issues Certificates of Compliance (COCs), and every job is insured. Confirm which compliance documentation applies to the agreed plumbing work; electrical certification is separate.

Phone or call 084 368 1879 to discuss your borehole pump and connection requirements. Send photos of the borehole head, existing equipment and proposed tank position, together with any borehole records. Hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00, with Saturday appointments by arrangement.

  • Owner on the tools.
  • Price agreed upfront.
  • Call-out fee includes the first hour of work.
  • Special rate for pensioners.

How we do the job

  1. 1

Establish the water demand and borehole capacity

List the outlets the system must supply and review the drilling and yield-test records. If essential information is missing, establish what testing is needed before choosing equipment.

  2. 2

Select the pump for the required duty

Use the pumping water level, delivery height, pipe losses and required pressure to determine the operating duty. Match this against the pump curve and the borehole’s sustainable yield.

  3. 3

Plan the pipework and supply separation

Set out the route to the tank or intended outlets, including suitable isolation valves and access points. Decide how municipal and borehole supplies will remain safely separated.

  4. 4

Install the pump and delivery connections

Lower and support the pump using the manufacturer’s specified method. Fit suitable pressure-rated delivery pipework and secure the borehole head against contamination.

  5. 5

Arrange controls and safe electrical connections

Provide controls appropriate to the layout, such as dry-run protection and tank level switching. Electrical supply, protection, connections and certification must be handled by an appropriately qualified electrical professional.

  6. 6

Test operation and explain the system

Check flow, pressure, leaks, tank filling and automatic stopping. Explain isolation points, protection controls and maintenance needs, and confirm any outstanding water testing before household use.

Common questions

Can I choose a pump from the borehole depth alone? +

No. Total borehole depth is not the same as pumping lift. The pumping water level, sustainable yield, delivery height, pipe losses and required pressure all affect selection.

Do I need a storage tank? +

Not every installation needs one. A tank is useful when demand varies or the borehole needs to pump steadily at a lower rate. Household pressure may then require a separate booster pump, depending on the layout.

Can borehole water supply my kitchen taps? +

Only after its suitability has been established through laboratory testing and any necessary treatment. Plumbing must also protect the municipal supply from contamination. A sediment filter alone does not establish that water is safe to drink.

Will a bigger pump fix poor flow? +

Not necessarily. Poor flow can result from a leak, restriction, worn equipment or a falling water level. A larger pump can draw water faster than the borehole replenishes it, so diagnose the cause first.

What should I send when requesting an installation assessment? +

Send your Springs address, intended water use, borehole depth and yield records if available, plus photos of the existing pump controls and connections. Include the proposed tank location and whether you want irrigation only or a household connection.
