Plumbing trouble on the East Rand is not always confined to one property. Ekurhuleni water outages, pressure changes and ageing municipal infrastructure can complicate a weak shower, an empty tap or a suspected leak. Fox Plumbing is based in Benoni and serves Brakpan, Springs, Boksburg, Kempton Park and Edenvale, as well as the wider East Rand and greater Gauteng.
Owner Evan Pretorius is a qualified, registered plumber with more than 20 years’ experience and remains on the tools. He is a member of IOPSA and PIRB and issues Certificates of Compliance (COCs). The price is agreed upfront, the call-out fee includes the first hour of work, and every job is insured.
Low pressure: check the supply before blaming the pipes
If several taps lose pressure together, ask whether neighbouring properties are affected and check current Ekurhuleni outage notices. A municipal interruption needs a different response from a blocked tap aerator or a partly closed valve. Note when the problem started and whether it affects hot water, cold water or both.
After supply returns, trapped air or disturbed sediment may cause spluttering or restrict fittings. Persistent low pressure should not simply be blamed on the municipality: older internal pipework, valves and unnoticed leaks can also be involved. Avoid adjusting pressure-control equipment yourself; explain the symptoms so the checks start in the right place.
Older homes, complexes and business premises
Across Benoni, Brakpan and Springs, established homes may have plumbing altered during successive renovations. Hidden joints, ageing pipes and separate lines to outbuildings can make a fault harder to trace. A damp patch is useful evidence, but it does not necessarily mark the source of a leak.
In townhouses and sectional-title complexes around Boksburg, Kempton Park and Edenvale, establish whether the affected pipe serves your unit alone or forms part of a shared supply. Contact the managing agent where necessary. For shops, workshops and other business premises, identify accessible shut-off valves and explain which facilities are affected when booking.
Finding hidden leaks without exploratory digging
Fox Plumbing uses non-invasive leak detection with harmless tracer gas and a detector. Most leaks are found within the hour, without digging during detection. This helps locate a hidden fault before opening surfaces unnecessarily. Access for the eventual repair is a separate matter and depends on where the damaged pipe lies.
Before calling, note damp areas, unexplained water use or meter movement when all outlets and water-using appliances are off. For a shared meter, that check is less conclusive. Phone 084 368 1879 with your suburb, property type and symptoms. Photos of visible damage or accessible pipework can help explain the problem.
Questions we get asked
Can Fox Plumbing restore municipal water supply? +
Municipal outages must be reported to Ekurhuleni. Fox Plumbing can investigate plumbing faults on your property; an area-wide interruption cannot be resolved by repairing a household tap.
When can I book? +
Hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00, with Saturdays by appointment. Call to arrange a booking.
Is there a pensioner rate? +
Yes. Pensioners get a special rate. Mention this when discussing the work and agreeing the price.
Can I request a plumbing COC? +
Yes. Evan issues COCs. Explain what work or installation needs certification when booking so the requirements can be discussed.
